Who Are We

Chimfunshi USA supports the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage Trust, one of the largest chimpanzee sanctuaries in the world. Over the past 40 years, what began as a home for illegally trafficked chimpanzees has become a model of sustainable economic development that benefits endangered wildlife and the local community.

Chimfunshi staff members and their families live on site, benefitting from housing, medical care, and education.  More than 280 local children attend our school which provides Kindergarten through Grade 9 education, reaching K-12 by 2028.

Nestled along the Kafue River, Chimfunshi plays a key role in the conservation of diverse natural ecosystems and species, including African Grey Parrots, Vervet Monkeys, and Pangolins.

Rescue and rehabilitate

We are dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of a variety of wildlife species, such as Chimpanzees, African Gray Parrots, Vervet Monkeys, and Pangolins.

Our expert care and specialized rehabilitation programs are designed to facilitate their recovery and eventual release into semi-enclosed forested environments that closely mimic their natural habitats. By doing so, we actively contribute to ongoing species conservation initiatives.

Community

Engage and empower

We are dedicated to sustainable development within local communities, fostering partnerships that support livelihoods while promoting conservation practices.

Our initiatives include educational programs, sustainable agriculture, and eco-tourism opportunities that empower communities to protect their natural resources and coexist harmoniously with wildlife.

Residents protect the wildlife and forest, which in turn provide them with livelihoods.

Conservation

restore and protect

Chimfunshi actively engages in landscape management and conservation initiatives aimed at preserving vital ecosystems.

By implementing sustainable practices and environmental management strategies, we mitigate threats to biodiversity and ensure the long-term health of natural habitats across the Chimfunshi landscape.
